Trinidad & Tobago Carnival

Trinidad hosts one of the top 9 Caribbean carnival destinations known as the biggest street party on the planet, where the visitors are welcome to join in the fun, dressed with costumes, and dance to mas music along the streets of Port-of-Spain, the capital city of the island.

On the sister island Tobago are being organized similar Carnival celebrations. The celebrations often end at Pigeon Point Beach and Maracas Beach, where the dancers can relax. The celebrations start after Christmas and go on until Ash Wednesday.

The Carnival begins on Monday with J’Ouvert at 4am, with a parade, followed by a second day with thousands of masqueraders in colourful costumes, who dance through the parade under the sounds of steelpan, soca, and calypso music.

Dominica Carnival

The island of Dominica is famous for its relaxed atmosphere and incredible nature of waterfalls and rainforests, as well as mountains. When the Real Mas Carnival season comes, the Dominica has band concerts and calypso contests, as well as a coronation of the Carnival Queen.

There is also a Calypso Monarch Show. The Carnival lasts for 3 days until Ash Wednesday and presents some of the most frightening costumed dancers in the region known as El Diablo Cojuelo who dance masked with horns and rattles.

The Grand National Carnival Parade is celebrated in Santo Domingo, marching along the capital city’s seaside promenade.

St. Kitts Carnival

The Carnival at St. Kitts starts at Christmas and lasts until 2nd January, combining the Christmas spirit with the Caribbean Carnival spirit.

The locals play Sugar Mas, present various Afro-Caribbean traditions and different costumed Carnival troupes. There are calypso shows and masquerade troupes, as well as beauty pageants.

Aruba Carnival

The Carnival season in Aruba starts with various festivities and a torch parade after New Year until Ash Wednesday. The period is characterized with many parties and live music bands, road marches and parades.

Among the highlights is the Lighting Parade at night when people wear special costumes illuminated with many small lights.

Puerto Rico Carnival

On the southern coast of the island, in the historic city of Ponce, is being celebrated a lovely carnival, suitable for families. It lasts for an entire week and ends on Fat Tuesday. The biggest celebration is on Sunday when the Grand Parade takes place with all the costumed dancers.

Jamaica Carnival

Bacchanal is the name of the carnival in Jamaica. It starts in February and lasts until May. All tourists are welcome to join, though the locals are the ones that feel at home.

Most of the parties are organized in the capital of the island, Kingston and on Montego Bay on the north coast. The events include concerts and theme parties, as well as road marches. The main Mas festival celebration is on 22th April.

Saint Lucia Carnival

The island of Saint Lucia celebrates it Carnival in July. It lasts for three weeks when people enjoy soca concerts, steel band performances, parade of the bands in Castries – the capital of the island and of course a Carnival Queen Pageant.

The Bahamas Carnival

In the beginning of May at the Bahamas starts Junkanoo, a Carnival celebration that lasts until New Year’s day. It includes costumed street parades with plenty of music and dances, concerts of the hottest bands in town, drum shows. This is the only carnival in the world that takes place on the beach.

Barbados Carnival

The local festival is called Crop Over and it lasts almost the entire summer with a culmination on 7th August. It is among the oldest carnival traditions in the Caribbean, dating back to 1600s. The festival was discontinued in the middle of 20th century to be revived again twenty years later and to become the second largest carnival in the region.

The Carnival includes Arts and Crafts Symposiums, Junior Monarchs and Cavalcades, Soca Limes and Crop Over Opening Gala, Laff-It-Off Productions, Foreday Morning Jam, Bridgetown Market, Sunrise Beach Party and many more.
