Coronavirus in the Caribbean Region?

As we know that the disease called coronavirus is spread all over the world nowadays. It started to spread from China this year. It is also being discussed a lot in the Caribbean region.

CARPHA (Caribbean Public Health Agency) alerted Caribbean countries to see a dangerous worldwide spread of coronavirus and has simultaneously dismissed reports of a possible outbreak in the region.

CARPHA chief Joy St. John called on public health officials to be prepared to deal with this dangerous coronavirus.

Suspected case of coronavirus in Jamaica. It is to be said that a suspected case of the coronavirus is being treated at the University Hospital of the West Indies. But it is not clear yet.

What is Coronavirus?

A coronavirus is a family of a common virus that causes an infection in your nose, sinuses, or upper throat. Two newer human coronaviruses, MERS-CoV and SARS-CoV, are life-threatening. The virus is named after its crown-like shape. Sometimes a coronavirus can infect both animals and humans.

  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Sore throat
  • Fever
  • A general feeling of being unwell

What is the prevention of coronavirus?

  • Avoid contact with sick people
  • Wash often hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Avoid touching your face, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
  • Avoid animal market as well as animal product (undercooked meats)
  • Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue.
  • Staying home when sick
  • Maintain good personal hygiene
  • Don’t travel if sick
  • Don’t travel to China if not essential
