Located in the Caribbean region, the little country of Trinidad and Tobago is one of the many jewels that you may find in the Caribbean.

With an area of 5,128 Km², equivalent to 1,981 square miles, the country is a little smaller than the state of Delaware, in the US. But, different from Delaware, you won’t be able to cross the country in a car because this little country is actually made out of two main Islands, being Trinidad one and Tobago another, and many other small islands, so if you want to cross this country, you better find a nice boat.

So, if this country is so small, probably there aren’t many things to do, right? Well, if you think like that, you couldn’t be more wrong. Just like a diamond on an engagement ring, Trinidad and Tobago is small – can’t deny that -, but it’s full of beauties, such as nature, cultural, and amazing places to see.

Now, if you choose this twin-island as your next destination, I can assure that you won’t regret it! But you might feel a little lost with so many things to do on this small Caribbean island, that’s why I compiled a little list of 5 amazing places and tours, so you can go straight to the best places and won’t lose your precious time.

Table of Contents

L’eau Michel Mud Volcano

If you’re looking for something like a spa experience, where you can relax, far from the big cities’ stress, while enjoying the nature, the L’eau Michel is a must-go. The mud are a perfect mix between solid and liquid, so perfect that you can soak in and keep afloat without a problem, and the mud isn’t hot nor cold, just enough for you to relax and forget all of your problems for a while, and the mud aren’t harmful at all, so you don’t have to worry about it.

But everything is not all roses. There are no bathrooms there, so you won’t be able to rinse the mud out, if you want to do that, you can take a 30-min trail to L’eau Michel Beach and rinse the mud out with some seawater.

Trinidad Island Tour

There are many tours which you can choose, but I’d recommend you to chose one that gets you to see the Lord Hanuman Hindu Temple, where you can see the 85ft – a little less than 26 meters – Indian God Hanuman statue, the Temple of the Sea, built by Seedas Sadhu to worship Hindus Gods, and the fresh produce market, where you can buy some delicious fresh fruit for your stay.

You may also take a tour that takes you from Port of Spain to the Fort George, which stand 236 ft – about 72mts – above sea level and gives a breathtaking panoramic view of the city.

Before you reach Fort George, the tour will take you through some amazing locations, such as the Queen’s Park Savannah, where you can see the group of colonial mansions known as “Magnificent Seven”, the Royal Botanical Gardens, where you can enjoy a bit of the nature while you still are in the city, and then the tour take you to Fort George.

Of course that there are many other tours, and if I would talk about each one, you’d be reading a book instead of a blog post. But if there’s one thing that I can assure you is that it doesn’t matter which tour you take to see the city and its culture, you won’t be disappointed.

Bioluminescence Tours

The bioluminescence tour is something magical that you may only find in a few places on earth, being, of course, Trinidad and Tobago one of them. The breathtaking tour can be done on a kayak or a stand-up paddle and cost about 60 USD. You can find more about the prices and dates here.

Even though the price maybe a little costly for a tour, the event is otherworldly and will leave you dazzled with the display of beauty brought by nature. It can’t be missed if you’re in the islands.

Nariva Swamp

The largest freshwater wetlands in Trinidad and Tobago, the Nariva Swamp is the home to 58 species of mammals and more than 175 species of bird, about 40% of the bird species found in this little Caribbean island can be found in the swamp, so if you’re looking for a place to watch the wild life, the swamp is the perfect place. If you go to the swamp, your mind will be blown by the diversity of animal life that you can find there.

If you choose to visit this beautiful place, you must go to the Forestry Department, located at 29 Farm Road, St. Joseph, to collect a pass and there they can give you information about the tours.

Englishman’s Bay

Last, but not least, a nice beach with white sands is something that the Caribbean region is known for, and of course that it couldn’t be different in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Englishman’s bay is one of the many stunning beaches that you may find in Tobago. With white sands, turquoise waters, and surrounded by the tropical  rainforest, the Englishman’s bay is the perfect place for you. Whether you want to swim, tan, do some snorkeling or even camping, the place is a perfect destination for you.

All in all, if you’re looking for a place to relax, enjoy the culture, and be with the nature, the twin-island is your destination. Those presented places and tours were only a few of many amazing things that you can do in this little islands.
