GFNY is one of the most important cycling events worldwide and will be held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, this March 20th, 2022.
Since 2018, Punta Cana has served as one of the locations for this exciting event. According to their official website “GFNY is a personal endurance challenge where you compete against others, the clock, and yourself. GFNY NYC serves as the GFNY World Championship for the GFNY World Series of races.”
The GFNY World events challenge participants on locations all over the world. Their website says that this gives you the chance to qualify for a front corral start at the GFNY World Championship in NYC.
All GFNY events provide the following for you:
– Mass start
– Individual chip timing from start to finish with awards for all categories
– Closed roads or police moderated traffic that ensures you don’t have to stop during the race
This route information has been taken quote by quote from the official event website.
The route will begin in the very heart of Punta Cana.
The first 25 kilometers of the route pass through a wide highway with four lanes, two of which will be closed to your path so that you can take advantage of the usual tailwind of the area, and you can accelerate to the fullest early.
From kilometer 26 you will enter a rural area of intense green where you will enjoy, on one side, some impressive hills in the background and on the other occasionally the amazing blue Caribbean Sea. This is the fastest section of the route.
If you have opted for the short route, when you reach kilometer 47 it is time to turn around, but do not trust yourself since the wind that you will have in front of you until the finish line is quite a challenge.
If, on the other hand, you have registered for the long route, then continue enjoying until km 63 where you will arrive at your return point beginning the real challenge for this route, since all that wind that was favorable until now constitutes and becomes quite the challenge. Upon reaching km 80 you will take a secondary road where you will find impressive landscapes and the occasional hill with relatively short elevations between 4 and 6 degrees of elevation.
Later you will reconnect with the main road where you will then return to the wide 4-lane section to pedal at “full steam” and reach the finish line located at the starting point.
By the time you cross under the arch, you will have lived motto experience that characterizes this event with the satisfaction of having battled like a true champion through a challenging route, but in one of the most beautiful and popular tourist places in the world planet.
Punta Cana is known for its beautiful and pristine beaches and warm weather which makes it one of the most popular tourist destinations of the Caribbean. But what most don’t know is that it’s one of the safest vacation spots as well, so tourists can feel confident and safe to practice sports and explore this part of the island, as stated on the event official site.
You are not a licensed racer? Well, the good news is that you don’t have to. GFNY it’s open to everyone of all fitness levels and to any athlete over age of 18 (or 19 depending on some regulations or the location where it is held at).
