Nice To Meet You 

Hi to all,

I’m Alvaro, a Venezuelan living in the beautiful Tamarindo Beach, Costa Rica, a surf instructor, and the Manager of Tidal Wave Surf Academy. 

​My surf school offers a variety of services and packages, from single surf lessons to surf lesson packages and group lessons.

My journey with surfing started in Venezuela, 16 years ago, on a beach called Chirimena, and I surfed almost all of Venezuela’s central coast. 

Four years ago, I arrived in Tamarindo, fell in love with this beach town, and started to provide surf lessons.

I am an ISA-certified Certified Surf Instructor and I have vast experience teaching children and adults to surf. 

Surfing has given me balance, calm, and a sense of meaning, and I enjoy transmitting the passion of surfing by teaching people the sport that has given me so much.

I am excited about sharing my knowledge and experience with you and helping you get the most out of your surfing experience. 

I believe that the ocean is a source of peace and relaxation for people of all ages.

By teaching my students the fundamentals of surfing, I hope to inspire them to find balance and calm in their own lives.

Highlights

  • -Our surf lessons take place in the best surf spot to learn to surf in Tamarindo - Capitan Suizo's spot. You can find it on the south side of Tamarindo Beach.
  • The sea bottom here is sandy, so corals or rocks aren't an issue, and the waves are usually calm and smooth.
  • -Our instructors are professionals at teaching kids and adults, and your safety is our top priority. In our surf lessons, we use techniques and safety measures structured by the ISA (International Surfing Association), so you can have fun and learn without worrying.
  • -We see the sport of surfing as a combination of calm and stress, explosive energy, and flow, just like the life. And for that, our goal is to teach students how to surf with confidence while encouraging them to have a can-do mindset and teaching them to manage their breathing and energy efficiently, so they can tackle any challenge.

The main difference between the lessons is the student-instructor ratio. We offer four types of surf lessons: Private surf lessons: one-on-one lessons tailored to the student's specific skills. Semi Private surf lessons: for 2 students only Group Surf lessons: for 3–4 students Big Group surf lessons: from minimum 5 students
