aFIWICulcha 4H Earth Day Culcha Fest

The Minard Hill 4H JMG Program is Hosting a #afiwiCulcha Earth Day Fest at Sha Sha Marley April 21- April 24

The colors black and gold of the Jamaican flag represent the people’s power and inventiveness; gold represents the natural beauty of the sun and the country’s richness, and the green represents hope and agricultural resources. Many visitors come to Jamaica to enjoy the Golden Sun, but few have had the chance to learn about the Black (Strength of Our People) and Green (Agricultural Resources) sides of Jamaican culture. The Minard Hill 4H Club is attempting to alter that.

Minard Hill, near Brown’s Town, St. Ann, was previously Jamaica’s greatest local manufacturer of tourist-oriented cuisine. Marvin Palmer, the 4H Club’s President, established the club to teach young people in agriculture and to re-establish Minard Hill as one of Brown’s Town’s major farming communities. To that aim, the Minard Hill 4H club is aiding club members in purchasing or constructing Tower Gardens for the purpose of growing foods for local and tourist reasons.

Jamaicans used their estates to cultivate food for local and tourism reasons in the early days of tourism. A Junior Master (Tower) Gardener Program is being run by Marvin Palmer, a farmer and member of the Jamaican agricultural organization, to provide organic gardening instruction to 4H members. Mr. Palmer can be reached at [email protected] if 4H members are interested in using Tower Gardens to grow food for visitors.

In the early days of Jamaican tourism, Jamaicans used another way of cultural exchange: hosting tourists in their homes. “A house stay” at an Airbnb, he says, is the only way to “really” EXPERIENCE Jamaican culture.” Mr. Palmer urges his members to go above and above while entertaining tourists in their homes or farms by giving home-cooked meals and tours of Jamaica’s natural, historical, and cultural attractions.

The biodiversity and agriculture of Jamaica are currently in high demand, much like her glorious sunshine. Green has surpassed Gold as Jamaica’s most sought-after natural resource as the epidemic continues. The epidemic has sparked a demand for more “Green” methods to eating and living, presenting huge career and economic prospects in the agricultural and food industries.

Your support of the Earth Day Fest, the Tower Garden Project, and other Green 4H programs will offer training and employment for young people in agricultural and green tech vocations and enterprises in Minard Hill and across Jamaica.
